I would have liked to photograph the ants running up and down the trunk of our cherry tree… but unfortunately they are too fast. Instead, here’s the lovely details of the tree’s bark.
On Tuesday we had the telescope set up again in the backyard, so I took a picture of Venus, beginning to cross the sun. The dark big spot is of course Venus, and the small spots are sun spots.
Ever since I was a child, my mother has had these growing in her garden. I always loved the way they look from the side – like some creature with a snout.

I was out in the garden taking photos this morning… a bit late in the season, apparently, for the roses. Or at least, if I wanted a pic of one in full bloom. But for me, the withering roses look pretty too… here’s the “prize picture” of the morning.
