Hot Topic Score: My Little Pony Phone Case

Published April 29, 2013 by kurolace

Hi All!

Today I was over at the mall because I was tutoring, and after my student and I split ways, I decided to go walk the mall. I did have at least one thing to buy in mind… that was some gummy candy at the candy store, so that I can make molds later this week. But along the way I saw Hot Topic. Now, the crazy thing is, I could have sworn that Hot Topic had already closed up and gone, like 5 months ago or more. I was going to go there sometime in November or December, but was surprised to see it had disappeared. And online the location at the mall is no longer listed…. So I don’t know if the store I went in to today was temporary or what….ย  Everything was Buy One Get One half off, mix and match. I saw a nice long dress with some skull lace, and decided to buy it. While looking through the My Little Pony display, I was really annoyed that the T-shirts were all lame and didn’t have any main characters on them (I would totally have gotten a Twilight Sparkle tee). But I did find this phone case… I decided to get it because I sort of like the wallet / phone case function…. Plus I think I had set myself on getting SOMETHING My Little Pony. (Later today I sort of had second thoughts… like, maybe I should have gotten that Jareth / David Bowie tee? – well I could go back….lol)

Anyway, check it out. $9 (originally 18.99) My Little Pony Phone Case/Wallet . The black background is actually the dress, but I don’t think you can see the skull lace.

Fluttershy is second best, behind Twilight Sparkle, IMO.

Front has protective plastic window with an opening on bottom for a button (or camera?) and then speaker holes at the top. I couldn't decide which way the phone was ment to go in, lol. And yeah, Alan Walker from D-Grayman is my wallpaper! :P

Cute Bow Earrings

Published March 2, 2013 by kurolace

Hi Darlings! Today I wanted to show you the great new earrings I got this week! I’ve been looking for a while to find some little black bow earrings, and finally came across a pair I wanted to try out.

$10.50 + $2.50 shipping, available on Amazon from Accessories Forever

$10.50 + $2.50 shipping, available on Amazon from Accessories Forever

I originally thought I’d prefer some that are just metal, but then I saw these rhinestone ones on Amazon. They areย  sold by Accessories Forever and cost me $13. I was a little bit nervous to buy them, since the picture on amazon made it difficult to tell what the size and quality would be. I thought they could either be really cute, or really cheese-y!

Luckily they turned out to be really cute! I actually received a complement on them the very first day I wore them. They are about 0.5″ x 0.5″, and the crystals really are of good quality.ย  Also, they arrived extremely quickly! Only about 2 days after I ordered them! (They shipped from CA, so if you live on the East Coast, its probably going to take longer.)

The same design is available in black, purple, red, blue, pink, silver, gold… and I think even teal. I’m seriously considering getting a pair of the purple ones! ๐Ÿ™‚

Christmas Haul, 2012

Hope everyone had a good day yesterday!

We woke up, opened presents and went through our stockings, and then had some delicious French toast that my mom and I had prepared the night before using challah bread. Since we only recently started moving stuff back into the kitchen, we didn’t make Christmas dinner at our house, but instead we went to a buffet at a local semi-luxury hotel. It was a pretty good meal… I ate enchiladas, shrimp cocktail, green bean casserole, and ambrosia fruit salad. And for dessert I had a little half sliver of German chocolate cake and a sliver of pumpkin pie. Thats gotta be my favorite thing about buffets – I don’t have to eat turkey / ham or whatever (I’m not a big fan of the typical holiday main dishes, for some reason). Also I can get “crumb” deserts – I take the little “left over” pieces left from people who couldn’t figure out how to take an entire piece without it falling apart. That way I can have a sampler plate with lots of types of dessert.

As to the gifts… In my stocking there was candy, of course, as well as a Starbucks gift card, a book, and angora socks (with reindeer on them, very cute, from Eddie Bauer). My brother gave me an iTunes DSCN0555card. My mom gave me the Panda hat/scarf and the OPI Sephora nail polish collection with mini bottles of polish. My dad gave me a silver scarf, and a chia cat grass growing kit. He also tried to get me a silicone / “gel” skin for my smartphone, but the person at the store sold him the wrong kind (even though he had my phone’s model name written down). I have an HTC MyTouch 3g, and the skin that the sales person sold my dad isn’t big enough and doesn’t have the camera hole in the correct place. So he’ll be returning that and then maybe we can go look for one that fits.

Additionally I received a bit of money too, from my Grandma, Aunt, Aunt & Uncle, and my parents. Totaling $600, I’ll probably use it to pay off my credit card… lol, how sad.

Of course Stitch wasn't part of the haul, but he is modeling my new panda hat/scarf for you.

New Embroidery Machine

Hello ๐Ÿ™‚ …

I’m afraid I’ve been absent for a while, haven’t I? Worry not, sweetlings, I still exist! Its just that the summer heat has hit in full here… and I am busy wilting most of the day ๐Ÿ˜›

Its been a bit over a week since my 25th birthday… which was back on the 15th. I feel so old saying that… What ever happened to 20? or 17 for that matter? …. Well, besides thinking depressing thoughts about how my life isn’t nearly what I hoped it would be by 25… I did have a nice day. We didn’t make much of a big deal out of it. My mom baked a delicious pineapple-upside-down cake, and we went out to a Japanese restaurant for sushi. Seeing as I don’t really have many friends here in my hometown, I didn’t do anything besides hang out with my family.ย  This year I completely failed to think of gifts that people could give me, so I ended up with all monetary gifts, which was just fine by me. After a lot of consideration, I finally decided to buy an embroidery machine.

Actually its a sewing-embroidery combo machine. The Brother SE-400. It only can do small (4x4in) embroidery, but that’s fine. The larger machines are significantly more expensive (like $2,000 plus), so I figured I’d start small and see if I even like machine embroidery enough to someday invest in a larger machine. So far I haven’t had much luck with using the machine… I am completely new to machine embroidery, so I’ve run into my fair share of newbie-errors. Also, accumulating all the necessary accessories has taken some time and an additional few hundred (the machine was $300).

I’ve already indulged in buying some cool goth-y embroidery patterns … so once I finally successfully complete one, I’ll post a few pics!

I’ve also been working on some sewing projects lately, including a tiered skirt and a flannel children’s blanket (shaped like a flower). I went on a bit of a fabric buying splurge and now my room is stuffed with bags of supplies again XD … If only I could have a little studio or craft room!

“Foolish Human, this is MY sewing project”

Other exciting news: I’ve finally decided to open an Etsy store! It will have the same name as my blog…. and I ordered some business cards yesterday! ๐Ÿ™‚ In the next few days I need to get my act together and photograph some of my items.

Check out my brand new…crocs?

Published April 28, 2012 by kurolace

The color here is pretty accurate...although perhaps a bit lighter than in real life.

The other day I was thinking about the jelly shoes I used to wear as a kid…. in my late elementary school – middle school era. You know, the ones with the glitter? Yeah, I was a 90’s kid, people ๐Ÿ˜›

Anyways, I decided to look around on the internet just to see what sort of jelly shoes might be available these days. Of course.. in the last 11+ years my tastes have changed dramatically, and the pink & silver clunkers that made me happy at age 9-11, just don’t cut it anymore. Fortunately, it turns out there are a few jelly shoe options out there for women too! On Zappos I found a few, but they all seemed over priced and were often the “thong style” which I’m not terribly keen on. Amazon had a few others that I liked better, not to mention they were at a more reasonable price.

I was kinda amazed to see that the style I liked best were actually a pair of crocs! Of course, I kinda knew crocs had moved on to more styles than those nasty, huge, stinky, clogs. But I hadn’t really paid much attention to the brand, as generally they aren’t really something that fits into my goth aesthetic.

The pair I ended up ordering yesterdayย  aren’t really very goth either, at least not by most people standards. But they are very ME.ย  Although I had chosen the 2-day shipping option thanks to my Amazon Prime account, that shipping is free), I was pleasantly surprised when the shoes arrived today. Occasionally this happens, if it ships from the right distribution center ๐Ÿ˜› … Oh BTW, the style is called “Adrina”.

Anyways…. As for my thoughts on the shoes after having worn them for a few hours: They are definitely very comfy. The only gripe I have is that my heel tends to come out of them as a walk…. but I have that issue with pretty much all ballet-flat style shoes. The positive side of that problem is: with these crocs, the plastic/rubber/whatever-it-is is soft enough that it doesn’t hurt my heels. With other ballet shoes (actually any slip-on type) I usually have to wear a band-aide or tape on my heel to avoid a bloody heel.

The sizing is just about right on… I normally take anything from an 8 – 10, and the pair I bought was a 9 (they only come in whole sizes, BTW). (In my ideal world, shoes would come in quarter sizes, and then I’d like to have a 8.75)

“Adrina” is available in 8 colors… I thought about getting the black, but its actually kind of a charcoal. I decided to go with “Ultraviolet / Berry” which has a blue-purple body and a pinkish-purple sole. The picture on amazon is pretty much accurate in regards to color. I’m gonna wear these for a week and see if I feel tempted to buy another pair in a different color. $30/pair is cheap enough in my opinion to warrant 2 pairs ๐Ÿ˜›

Eh... taking pics while wearing them requires a better set-up than I had patience for... lol. So please excuse the not-so-great angle/focus... not to mention the chipped pedicure.
